Rhetorical Analysis of Project 3

The following is my analysis of the Project 3 and some concepts that I need to focus on.

Author Response

Explain, with some specificity, your answers to the below questions for the different elements of your rhetorical situation for Project 3. Feel free to fill this blog post bit by bit as you conduct research and determine how you plan on responding to the project assignment. You may not know all the answers to these questions right away, without time to research and reflect.

Author.

1)How will you draw on any or some of the following for Project 3? Be specific about how your plans for Project 3 connect to some previous, current or burgeoning interest of your own, such as...
your own general research interests.

For Project 3 I will be focusing on the U.S. women's soccer team file complaint about unequal pay. I am a fanatic of sports, mainly soccer and so that is how the subject connects with me.

  2.  What are the preconceptions, previously held opinions and/or potential areas for
personal bias that you should be aware of for Project 3? What about any of the
               following?

I understand there might be some bias in favor the women's team getting unequal pay compared to the men's team since I know they have performed way better than them in the past couple of years. That being said, I also have a bias toward equality for women and everyone in general.

Audience.
Based on your plans for Project 3, answer the following…

1)How are you thinking about your audience for this project? Who are you going to make this for? Describe them.

I am most likely making this project for adolescents in college who most I assume could care less about soccer.....and women's soccer at that. They do enjoy sports for the most part, so I have a niche there.

2) What
beliefs and assumptions might this audience already hold? What position are they likely to take on this issue? How will you respond to that position?

I believe most of them do believe in equal pay for everyone and for women's rights. I believe they will most likely be in favor of the women being paid equally. I will want to show them some counterarguments as to why the women are being treated fairly compared to the men.

3)How might they react to your argument?

I think they will respond with respect and positive feedback.

4)How are you going to relate to or connect with your audience? Are there any specific words, ideas or ways of arguing that will help you relate to them in this way?

I am planning on doing so using patriotic persuasion. As in, display the soccer team as American heroes who deserve to be payed on par with the men's side. Also, I am thinking of using an analogy example of sorts that will allow the audience to feel closer to these women.

5)Think of one specific person or a set of people you know personally or professionally who fall within the definition of ‘target audience’ you’re using for Project 3. What could you tell them or say to them in order to convince them of your perspective? What would need to happen for them to agree with you?

I would demonstrate to them simply what the women's team has won compared to the men in the last 5 years. What would need to happen is for me to show the side by side comparison of salaries and then show the titles and awards of the men and women soccer players in the last half decade.

Purpose/Message.

1)
What do you want to accomplish with Project 3? What affect do you want it to have on your intended audience? For instance:

I hope my project implements the idea to the audience that the current generation of U.S. women's soccer is possibly the best we have ever had and they deserve more recognition in the U.S.

Also, I hope they understand that they should get paid a bit more than they are right now due to their excellence on the pitch.

2)Now that you’ve done all your research and figured out what you think about the
controversy you’ve chosen, what still needs to be accomplished? For instance:

I think what still needs to be accomplished is to compile more footage of the economic statistics of female American soccer players compared to that of the Men's as well as some quotes from female players such as Hope Solo and Alex Morgan.

Context. What are the particular circumstances surrounding this assignment?

Some circumstances surrounding this project are that this project is revolving around a contemporary issue and it is getting plenty of articles written about it. The assignment is based on sports and therefore I feel the project should contain footage of some sport like soccer.

What genre?
1)What course genre will you be writing in for Project 3?

For this project I plan on using the video as the course genre.

2)What kinds of audience expectations come along with this genre, generally?

Generally, the audience expects to be educated visually and with audio over the subject of the project. Minor text is expected from the video genre (unless transition titles or credits are involved).

3)What is your history working in the genre you have selected for Project 3?

In the past I have created videos for personal enjoyment and for high school projects. When it comes to using video editing software, I only have the basic skills to use it.

4)Describe your comfort level and general feelings about the genre. How will they affect your work on Project 3?

I feel alright about the genre. I have slight concerns over what I am going to be able to record or if I am even going to actually produce visual content for this video. I might just have to collect video sources from online and scrap them up into a well produced video.

5)What are the two most effective conventions in this genre, in your opinion? Why? Be specific.

I believe the most effective conventions are transition titles and sound. Transition slides give the audience a narrative guide to follow through the video in order to understand where they are in the video and well sound is a key instrument in video as it can set the mood for what the video is displaying.

When?
1)Are there any historical events that might impact how your audience perceives your argument or the kind of background information or evidence you need to include? For instance, does media reporting on any of the following involve your issue/subject for Project 3?

To some extent media reporting does have an affect on project 3. More specifically, the media coverage of the U.S. women's soccer team winning championships and some quotes from people such as Alex Morgan.

2. Who else is talking about this topic? Provide us with working hyperlinks to coverage of the controversy on FOUR different media outlets.

Khon2 is speaking about the file complaint made by women soccer players.

Fortune magazine is speaking about the complaint.

Today is on the complaint.

NewsOK is on the matter as well.

3. What are the three or four major counter-arguments you’ll have to respond to, based upon what people are saying in the press/media? Be specific and cite your sources using working hyperlinks.

These women are complaining against the wrong evil. These women should be complaining to FIFA who distribute the money with the U.S. soccer federation.

The women have a smaller fan base than the men's soccer team.

The women bring in less revenue than the men's soccer team.
